Where is the respect for Mrs. Schiavo’s marriage?

Filed under: Death, Euthanasia, Marriage — Rob @ 6:30 pm

When you marry, do you trust your spouse with your life? If so, why are people interfering in Terri and Michael Schiavo’s marriage?

Please see my op-ed piece about Terri Schiavo here: Devotion Through Dignity: Hopes for the Memory of Terri Schiavo and Those Who Love Her, then leave your answers for all to read.

  1. Yeah, and why are we prosecuting Scott Peterson when it was
Laci who trusted him with her life? We had no right to
    interfere with their marriage, either!

  2. Because he killed his wife! Geeeze. Big reach there… Are you suggesting that we should prosecute Schiavo because he killed his wife? Got enough evidence for a grand jury, there, King? Because they did with Peterson.

Do you really think taking this to some absurd place is going to help people understand your position?

  3. Michael Schiavo would similarly be killing his wife.

It’s no more absurd than your gotcha questions. You have no
interest in “seeking to understand Christians,” as evidenced
by your loaded questions. You’re not seeking truth, you only want
    to win an argument.

  4. Did anyone ever tell you Elvis was cool? Breaking the mold, eh?
You don’t answer the questions at all. BTW, I think Laci payed plenty for having married the wrong man. He was responsible for her unfortunate death. Terry had a world full of people that could have stopped her from starving herself nearly to death and didn’t. Her husband, her parents, her friends, her priest. They watched her waste away and DID NOTHING. NOW they want to force her to eat. Too little too late. Selfish, selfish, selfish!!!!

  5. So they should have interfered in their marriage? Is that
    what you’re saying?

I will answer the questions you posed: I trust my wife with my life, yes.

People are “interfering with their marriage” because she didn’t
have a living will. To remove the tube is to kill her, and
in this country we don’t kill people who have become inconvenient.

  6. No, Elvis, he wouldn’t. He would be doing what the courts and the doctors agree is finishing a death that she started by starving herself into this state.

BTW: Didn’t she sin by not taking care of her body, the Temple?

Futhermore, you did what right wing nut Rethuglican Church members do a lot of. You misquoted the web site and then argued with the misquote. Here’s the actual description of the page:

Seeking to understand the Christian right amidst a preponderance of wrong.

You said the site was “seeking to understand Christians.” If you’re going to argue, try to tell the truth. That’d be right Christian of you.

As for the “truth” vs. “winning and argument” I say, why are they mutually exclusive? How could I win an argument by lying?

TO say that what Mr. Schiavo is doing is the same as what Mr. Peterson did is absolutely absurd.

  7. No, I think they should have interfered in her starvation. They didn’t. Now they are interfering in her marriage as well as her death. They are interfering because they feel guilty for not having saved her life when she actually had one. Subjecting her to being their living doll now is not loving or respectful, as far as I can see.
It’s horrifying, and I don’t have to have known her to know she wouldn’t want to live like that.
I don’t think she’s inconvenient. I think she is very convenient for those using her parents for their own agenda.
But thanks for the civility and lack of sarcasm and insults. You’re getting better.

  8. That’s so true Rob. Did you see that Tom DeLay was getting involved in the issue? Great way to detract from his lack of Christian Ethics!
